How does selection work in Chem3D mobile?
Selection in Chem3D is fully hierarchical. For example, selecting a residue in cartoon mode also selects all the atoms and bonds of the residue (even if they cannot currently be seen). If a residue is selected in cartoon mode, a short sequence of the cartoon will be highlighted. If ball and stick mode is then selected, all the atoms and bonds of the residue will be selected. And though there is currently no display mode that can show it, the chain that contains the residue is also selected. So selection is propagated up and down the molecular hierarchy.
Selection is also inclusive, so that if any atom is selected, its parent molecule (or residue) is considered to be selected. So if a protein atom is selected in ball-and-stick mode, the corresponding residue will appear selected in cartoon mode.
