ChemDraw 15 has only been validated and is only supported under MS Office 2011.

We will not be able to test and validate MS Office 2016 for Mac (Office 15) until it is officially released.

It would be great if integration issues were addressed before the official release as this impacts a lot of customers.

It is the old, old story. cmd+v fails when ChemDraw, MS Word or OSX are updated.

Is there any solution known so far? Would be great to have the full support for this software..

We have released an update for our v15.0 Mac product to support Mac OSX 10.11.x. Please retest the problem with our 15.1 Mac product. You can obtain a fully functional 2 week evaluation version of the latest version of our products from our web site at:

It is now possible for me with the new Chemdraw 15.1 to copy&paste ChemDraw objects to Word. However, if I want to edit them by double-clicking as I would do under Windows, it does not work since it is added as a picture. How do I fix this?

I just tested the compatibility between Chemdraw 15.1 and Office 15 Preview on Mac. Round-trip editing is fine, but pasting Chemdraw object from Chemdraw into Word is annoying. Direct CMD+V pasted clipboard code. I had to use Ctrl+CMD+V and select "Paste as PDF" to get correct rendered Chemdraw objects.

Wish this problem will be fixed by a patch as soon as the formal relase of Office 18.

You will not be able to edit a structure in MS Office for Mac the same way it happens in Windows. Microsoft dropped the support on OLE for Office a long time ago.

In order to edit a structure pasted into Word or Excel you will need to copy and paste the structure back into ChemDraw. Once you make the changes you can copy and paste it back into your Office application.

When you copy any object from ChemDraw (Mac) and paste (default) in MS Word 2016, it pastes an MOL text version of that object instead of the original object view. o

Workaround: Use the 'Paste Special >> PDF option in MS Word to get the original object view pasted. This PDF object can be copied back to ChemDraw by maintaining all ChemDraw object properties.

With ChemDraw 15.1 and Word 15.23 (newest version) i have the problem that even 'Paste Special >> PDF' isn't working. When copieng something in ChemDraw the 'Paste Special' option is greyed out or isn't showing the option to Paste as a PDF. Any solution on that Problem?

These instructions do not work. After copying from ChemDraw (15.1), Paste and Paste Special are not available in MS Word (15.23). Fix?

To follow up on my post of 7/7/2016... I submitted a support ticket to Perkin-Elmer where I described the problem as "After selecting and copying a structure in ChemDraw, when I switch to Word or PowerPoint (Office 2016 for Mac), neither 'Paste' nor 'Paste Special...' commands are available." I got a reply that said "There should not be any issue if you are using ChemDraw 15.1 with Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac...." and I was directed to the FAQ that addresses a problem where pasting into Word gives a series of numbers and characters instead of a structure. OMG! What do you have to do to get meaningful support from Perkin-Elmer????? My college pays a not insignificant amount of $$$ for a site license. Is it too much to expect the software to work as advertized or to get useful support? Perkin-Elmer, are you listening????????

I have exactly the same problem. After copying from ChemDraw (15.1), the Paste and Paste Special are not active in Word nor in PowerPoint.

This solution just simply doesn't work. I just installed version 15.1.0.144 and it is unable to copy anything into the clipboard. It only copies and pastes within chemdraw, and when you try to paste into any other software in the computer (Preview, Pages, Word, Powerpoint) it just shows a grey paste option. Cmd+ctl+V in Word does not work either, because the clipboard in empty.

I am not sure what update you have offered with v 15.11 and what settings the users that managed to make it work had in their computers, but this is clearly not a solution to a big part of the community. I'm running OsX 10.11.6 on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, if this is of any help.

As usually, poor job by Perkin Elmer keeping ChemDraw up to date and functional once it is released

In case someone else finds this thread and is having the same greyed out problem: I submitted a support ticket, and was told to delete the Notability app from my desktop (including deleting it from the Trash).

Though I was sceptical (to put it mildly), this actually worked. One still has to do the annoying paste-as-PDF workaround, but it works, and you can normal cut/paste back into CD and have the structures be editable.

Please note that just deleting the App will not do the trick, you also need to empty the Trash for the problem to be resolved.

Do you have Academic Site Subscription? Everyone associated with the school is eligible to use the software under the terms of the license. I have they are offering great term taking into account anyone associated with your school can install and use the software during the period of the license.
