Sharing Data in Columbus
Based on the OMERO structure:
http://help.openmicroscopy.org/sharing-data.html
In Columbus a particular dataset is owned by a user and an associated group account - the users default group. That means, if columbus' default group is the group with the name 'default', data that has been uploaded recently is visible to all members of the user group 'default'. In case you have a different user 'user1', it has to be member of the group 'default' to see data of the columbus account. In order to share data within a group named 'group1' it has to be uploaded by an account with the default group 'group1'. This is a standard method modeled on the access rights of unix file-systems.
example:
- 'user1' is a member of 'group1'
- 'user1' imports some data, lets call it 'data1'
All users who are members of 'group1' are able to see 'data1'
- 'user1' is now added to 'group2'
- 'user1' imports some data, called 'data2'
All users who are members of 'group1' are able to see 'data1' AND 'data2'
All users who are members of 'group2' are ONLY able to see 'data2'
This indicates that users in 'group2' are not able to see any data which 'user1' had imported prior to him joining 'group2'.
It is possible to change the default group, however existing data won't be moved to the new group. Only data that is uploaded afterwards is visible from other members of the new group.
